  • Matriculation / SSLC + Completed Apprenticeship in the specified trades
  • Matriculation / SSLC + 3 years Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Automobile Engineering (or combination)
  • Engineering degree in the above streams is also acceptable in lieu of a diploma

Selection Process

  • Stage 1 – CBT‑1 (Screening Test): 75 objective questions, 60 minutes, negative marking 1/3 per wrong answer. Marks are only for shortlisting.
  • Stage 2 – CBT‑2: Two parts. Part‑A (100 questions, 90 minutes) decides final merit; Part‑B (75 questions, 60 minutes) is qualifying (minimum 35%). Negative marking 1/3 applies.
  • Stage 3 – Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Psycho‑test in Hindi & English, no negative marking. Shortlisted candidates = 8 × vacancies per category.
  • Stage 4 – Document Verification (DV): Combined merit of CBT‑2 Part‑A (50 %) and CBAT (50 %) used to call candidates.
  • Stage 5 – Medical Examination (ME): Must meet A‑1 medical standards at a designated Railway Hospital.

Exam Syllabus

CBT‑1 (60 min, 75 questions)

  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Fractions, Ratio & Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time & Work, etc.
  • Mental Ability: Analogies, Series, Coding‑Decoding, Syllogism, Data Interpretation, Reasoning, etc.
  • General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences (10th‑grade level)

CBT‑2 (2 hrs 30 min, 175 questions)

Part‑A (100 questions, 90 min) – Advanced Mathematics & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering (drawing, units, electricity, mechanics, safety, IT literacy).

Part‑B (75 questions, 60 min) – Trade‑specific technical questions for chosen streams (Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Automobile).
