IBPS Specialist Officer (SO) Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2023

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has released the syllabus and exam pattern for the 2023 Specialist Officer (SO) recruitment. The notification covers six posts – Law Officer, IT Officer, Agriculture Field Officer, HR/Personnel Officer, Marketing Officer and Rajbhasha Adhikari. About the Recruitment

IBPS conducts a Common Written Examination for Specialist Officer posts across participating banks. The selection process consists of a Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) and Interview. Successful candidates will be appointed as Specialist Officers in various banks.

Preliminary Syllabus – Topic Wise

  • English Language: Idioms, synonyms, antonyms, passage completion, sentence transformation, error correction, active/passive voice, spelling, para completion, etc.
  • Reasoning: Analytical, logical, puzzles, verbal reasoning, data interpretation, data sufficiency, non‑verbal reasoning.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, mensuration, probability, data interpretation, simplification, etc.

Main Syllabus – Post Wise

  • IT Officer: Operating systems, microprocessors, data communication, networking, software engineering, OOP, DBMS.
  • Agriculture Field Officer: Ecology, seed science, horticulture, agricultural research, animal husbandry, crop production, irrigation, soil resources, government schemes.
  • Marketing Officer: Product life‑cycle, retail management, market segmentation, advertising, brand management, marketing research, CSR.
  • Law Officer: Banking laws, Evidence Act, DRT Act, Money‑Laundering, Consumer Protection, Limitation Act, SARFAESI, Ombudsman scheme, foreign exchange regulations.
  • HR/Personnel Officer: Business policy, industrial relations, performance management, recruitment, training, grievance handling, HR development.
  • Rajbhasha Adhikari: Professional knowledge (objective & descriptive) focusing on language and banking terminology.
